The Red Sox have a new manager, but for now, he has another job to do.

Alex Cora, the Astros bench coach and former Red Sox infielder, will be the 47th manager in Red Sox history. The team announced today that Cora has accepted a three-year deal with a club option for 2021 to replace John Farrell.

The Red Sox said that a press conference will be held at a later date. After all, Coras still trying to win a World Series.

The Astros meet the Dodgers in Game 1 on Tuesday. The team will hold off commenting on the hire until the series is over.

He's all about baseball, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. He's all about the competition and small advantages within the game, one of the brightest baseball intellects that I've been around. And to see him pass some of that on and transition from player to TV personality to coach, he's had a ton of impact.

He challenges people. He challenges me. He's someone who's all about winning. And I think to watch our players respond to him, he's got a lot of respect in that clubhouse because of the work he puts in and the attention to detail that he brings. That's why he's the hottest managerial candidate on the planet and deservedly so.

Having just turned 42 years old, Cora has been, in fact, the hottest managerial candidate in the game. Even with the Astros still playing, he reportedly also interviewed for the Mets and Tigers openings, and he was a finalist for managerial jobs the past two offseasons.
